The overall equipment has been judged as perhaps the best of the medium power semi-portable installations placed in service during WWII for the British Army. The unit was designed as a general purpose Brigade/Division set for use as a vehicle or ground station.
The receiver features a crystal calibrator giving 1000/100/10 kHz outputs. The stages of the receiver are conventional with RF/Mixer/Osc/2xIF/BFO/2xAF using ARP3s, DET/ANL using 12Y4Gs. The 3 calibrator tubes are 12SC7s. The IF frequency is 420 kHz.
The power for the receiver is supplied by a 12v accumulator driving a vibrator supply to provide 145v HT. Typical current drawn by the reciver at 12v is 3.3a. The remote receiver is driven by a ZE-12 Supply Unit 3A, which is identical to the main receiver supply.
